Tanker breaks in two after explosion, two crew missing

An empty tanker split in two after an explosion and fire incident leading to the missing of two crew members.

According to Maritime Bulletin’s report, the accident happened at around 15:00 (Beijing time) on 10 January in the Yellow sea, 45 nautical miles southeast of Qingdao, China.

Based on the currently available information, the tanker seems to be Hong Pu 6, however, it is not confirmed at the time of writing.

Search and Rescue (SAR) boat Bei Hai Jiu 115 was sent to render assistance, approached the tanker at 22:20 (Beijing time) and rescued 15 seafarers.

As of 23:20 Beijing time on 11 January, there were several SAR boats, SAR ships, and anti-pollution ships in the region, according to Maritime Bulletin.
