A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Invest International, Gasunie, and Hyphen, as well as the Namibian Implementation Authority Office, Namport, and Nampower.
The organisations highlight their intention to collaborate on the development of cooperation for green hydrogen-related infrastructure, which will result in new hydrogen supply chains from Luderiz in Namibia to Rotterdam in the Netherlands and its surrounding areas.
The agreement was signed during the visit of Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, to Namibia, which was primarily focused on cooperation on energy transformation and renewable hydrogen.
Green hydrogen, produced from renewable energy, is useful for the decarbonisation of the maritime industry. Extending the current sustainable and equitable relationships between Namibian and Dutch governments, industries, and intellectual institutions would be critical to accelerate both countries’ green hydrogen growth.
With this MoU, the three Dutch state-owned enterprises want to emphasise their commitment to further grow, deepen, and organise Namibia-Netherlands green hydrogen cooperation in the next years. The goal is to grow Namibia’s hydrogen economy and establish new export trade relations with the Netherlands and the rest of North West Europe.
This deal builds on a systematic discourse on collaboration in the realm of energy resources, especially green hydrogen, by signing a Letter of Intent (LoI) between the National Planning Commission of Namibia and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy of the Netherlands.
