Timber trade goes online

Digital timber trade company Centersource aims to digitalise the wood supply industry with its online marketplace, the Timber Exchange (TX), which was recently launched and is aimed at freight forwarders practiced at moving timber as freight as well as sawmills and importers within the timber supply chain.

The company says TX is an easy to use platform that provides a common online space for participants in the trade, while automating much of the time-consuming processes that traders in the business face today.

In effect, the platform “leverages decades of industry experience, automation technology, and digital marketplace tools to offer a sophisticated logistics and trade platform that eliminates global trade pinch-points and billions of dollars in unnecessary costs,” said the company.

Centersource said Timber Exchange is the first platform of its kind for the industry and will offer participants a range of services including as a source of industry data as well as eliminating the costs associated with volatile prices swings, “data silos, manual documentation and intermediaries profiting from geographic arbitrage.”

“Companies in the Timber supply chain have regarded efficiency, transparency and accountability as an administrative burden and expense, rather than a competitive advantage that can be capitalised on. There’s a serious technology deficit in our industry. Timber Exchange offers an effective way to capture the competitive advantages of digital technology,” said Timber Exchange CEO and Founder Amir Rahsad.

Centersource is an independent digital marketplace and supply-chain automation platform, which is seeking to digitalise the global timber supply-chain, developing cross-border collaboration, and automation.
