Traffic started on new container line between Sweden and Iceland

For the first time, a vessel of the Dutch shipping company Samskip set sail from APM Terminal’s short-sea terminal in the Port of Gothenburg.

Samskip’s ship, Helgafell, arrived in Gothenburg last week on 5 April, before departing for the Faroe Islands and Iceland via Aarhus, Denmark.

Helgafell will now call at the Swedish port once a week and then will sail to Faroese Runavik and Reykjavik in Iceland, arriving four days later in Rotterdam.

The service will be as follows: Gothenburg (Sweden) -Aarhus (Denmark) -Runavik (Faroe Islands) -Reykjavik (Island) -Grundartangi (Iceland) – Vestmannaeyjar (Iceland) -Runavik- Rotterdam (Netherlands) – Cuxhaven (Germany) – Gothenburg

“The new call is not only a lifeline between Iceland and Sweden, but also represents the starting point for a competitive and sustainable short-sea offer from the largest container port in the Nordics to the continent,” stated Brian Bitsch, chief commercial officer at APM Terminals.
