Two on duty security personnel died at Chittagong port yards

Two on-duty security personnel died in Chittagong port this week, one being hit by a straddle carrier while the other died after feeling ill.

The other one Mahbubur Rahman is a security personnel of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA).

CPA spokesperson Omar Faruk said Zayed Miah was hit by a straddle carrier on 2 July while was on duty at the east reefer container yard of the Chittagong Container Terminal. He was taken to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital immediately. Miah succumbed to his injuries in the evening.

Faruk further informed that security personnel Mahbubur Rahman suffered a heart attack on 3 July while performing his duty at the port area. He was also taken to the hospital and died after receiving treatment.

Incidental deaths in Chittagong Port are not new. At one stage the crane moved back suddenly and Sifat Rabbi was crushed under its wheel.
