Workers’ strikes at the United Kingdom’s ports in Felixstowe and Liverpool are expected to cause operational delays in the country’s supply chain network, as well as potential ripple effects on other ports in Europe.
The British trade union Unite has announced the following strike actions at the ports in the United Kingdom:
- Strike at the Port of Felixstowe commences at 7 am (local time) on Tuesday 27 September and ends at 6:59 am on Wednesday 5 October
- Strike at the Port of Liverpool starts at 6 am on Monday 19 September and ends at 6 am on Monday 3 October.
Workers at the two major container ports of the United Kingdom have decided to strike due to failure in negotiations about a pay increase.
The Port of Felixstowe stated that the collective bargaining process has been exhausted, while the Port of Liverpool is urging Unite to keep the negotiations going, according to Danish leading container carrier Maersk.
“Our teams are working hard on planning appropriate contingencies to mitigate the impact on our customers, and we expect to share more information in the coming days as we finalise the planning,” said Maersk in a recent advisory.
