Valenciaport initiates construction of third solar power plant

The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) and Valencia Terminal Europa (VTE), a Grimaldi Group company, officially inked an agreement about the establishment, operation and maintenance of the photovoltaic infrastructure being constructed on the rooftop of the vehicle silo within the VTE concession on the East Dock.

Mar Chao, president of Valenciaport, and Antonio Crespo, director of Valencia Terminal Europa, convened for a working session to finalize details and sign the agreement, marking a pivotal step for the Port of Valencia in advancing its sustainable energy initiatives.

Post-meeting, Crespo highlighted, “This project is part of a joint strategy between the PAV and Grimaldi Group to advance in the process of decarbonisation and achieve the Zero Emissions Objective in the Valencian docks”.

Chao underscored the significance of the project by stating, “With the generation of approximately 11% of the electricity needed for port operations, the implementation of this infrastructure will reinforce the commitment to climate neutrality in the site’s activities.”

The construction of the photovoltaic plant, already underway, is entrusted to the joint venture comprising Lantania S.A.U and Tecmo Instalaciones, representing a PAV investment exceeding US$17.5 million.

Funding for the project is sourced from the European Union’s Next Generation funds and the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
