Valenciaport has announced double-digit container activity growth in June and in the first half of the year, compared to the same period of 2020.
In particular, the Spanish port has handled a total of 487,803TEU in the previous month, which represents a year-on-year growth of 23.2% with the port’s exports reaching 96,455TEU, increased significantly by 35%.
At the same time, total freight traffic was more than 7.3 million tonnes, representing an increase of 20.6% compared to June 2020.
As for the first half of the year (H1), the Port of Valencia has handled more than 2.8 million TEU, which shows a growth of 11.65% in container traffic over 2020, and an increase of more than 3.34% in comparison to 2019. More specifically, exports grew by 27% and imports by 16% over 2020.
During the same period, the total freight throughput was 42.6 million tonnes, showing a rise of 13.05% compared to the same period in 2020 and 4% compared to the first six months of 2019.
Meanwhile, China was the leading trading partner of the port of Valencia during the first half of the year with a total of 303,124 full containers, with the United States and Turkey following. India, Morocco and Italy are the countries with the highest growth in the container trade with the Valenciaport for the first six months of 2021.
Last but not least, the Far East is the area where most containers were handled, with a growth of 17.6% compared to 2020, followed by the Mediterranean and Black Sea, West Africa and Atlantic South America.
