Virus crisis forces Hapag-Lloyd into more schedule alterations

Hapag-Lloyd has been forced into additional schedule changes, as the market demand faces unprecedented challenges.

The German carrier has announced further void sailing positions for the South East India – Europe Express (IEX) due to Covid-19 related measures in several countries resulting in operational challenges and an unusual decline in demand.

Hapag-Lloyd offers the following alternative routings:

The Hamburg-based firm has already made several changes in its Conosur Service (CON), with the last one being the blanking of the Nordic Hong Kong 23 westbound and 26 eastbound positions. The company will leave the vessel idle after its discharge operations in Brazil. The boxship will be idled in Santos on 10 June 2020 and will phase-in at the port of Puerto Madryn on 17 July 2020.

As another reaction to the temporarily lower demand in the trade, Hapag-Lloyd will reduce its Dakar Express service (DEX) to a fortnightly frequency with effect from week 24 (southbound).

Moreover, Hapag-Lloyd has implemented the following void sailing on the Gulf – Caribbean Service (GCS).

  • Vessel: Virginia Trader Voyage 2022S / 2022N

For export cargo, as an alternative the company offers next vessel Minerva 2023 SB/NB.

On the bright side, the line has announced the revision of its sailing schedule in June with reinstated sailings for its Asia to Mediterranean services.

Reinstated Sailings departing Asia by Service:

  • MD1 Service week 25
  • MD2 Service weeks 24 and 26
  • MD3 Service week 24
