Visy and its partner Prime Trading & Contracting have won the tender to deliver truck and rail Optical Character Recognition (OCR) portals, alongside gate operating system (GOS) of Visy Access Gate, to the October Dry Port facility in Egypt.
The equipment will be delivered in the current month, and on-site installation work is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2022.
October Dry Port constitutes the second OCR project for Visy in Egypt. In 2017, Visy and Prime were awarded the delivery of truck OCR and automated gate solutions for the Alexandria Container Terminal.
“Freight and containerised traffic in Egyptian ports has shown robust growth in recent years and this trend is expected to continue. To cope with this booming market, there is a need for an Inland Customs Clearance Depot to de-bottleneck the various ports on the Mediterranean and Red Seas,” commented a Visy representative.
According to a statement, the 6th of October Dry Port Project is Egypt’s first inland port project, and Visy’s system is the first OCR environment implemented in Egypt.
