Wallenius Wilhelmsen and United European Car Carriers expand their PCTC fleets

Scandinavian shipping company Wallenius Wilhelmsen has declared two out of four options for the 11,700 CEU “Shaper” class of pure car truck carriers (PCTCs).

These ships will be constructed by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, with expected delivery in the latter half of 2028.

In addition, two current orders for 9,300 CEU vessels will be upgraded to the 11,700 CEU “Shaper” class. Consequently, the company’s fleet will include eight “Shapers” and six smaller vessels, totaling 149,400 CEUs.

The same Chinese shipyard will build two LNG/dual fuel 4,500 CEU PCTCs for the Norwegian shortsea specialist United European Car Carriers (UECC), with an option of an additional two ships. The vessels will have ten decks, of which two are hoistable, and a quarter stern ramp with a safe working load of 160 tons.
