WiseTech Global acquires online platform for container reuse and exchange

WiseTech Global, the producer of logistics execution software CargoWise, announced the acquisition of MatchBox Exchange, a pioneering online open market platform for the reuse and exchange of shipping containers amongst landside logistics companies.

WiseTech Global bought MatchBox Exchange, based in Australia, from private shareholders.

MatchBox Exchange is available in the following countries: Australia, India, Indonesia, Israel, New Zealand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its customers include transportation firms and their clients, freight forwarders, and importers/exporters.

The MatchBox Exchange platform connects individuals with a supply of empty containers to those in need. Through direct connections, MatchBox Exchange interacts with major shipping lines like Maersk, CMA CGM, MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, ONE, HMM and Yang Ming to enable consumers to reuse boxes or request or supply empty containers across enterprises for their import or export needs.

“There is a huge number of containers moving around the globe at any one time with 862 million TEUs in 2022. MatchBox Exchange brings new digital capability to optimise the reuse of shipping containers to reduce unnecessary trucking trips, increase container utilization and improve productivity. This is a great example of true optimisation by offering more than mere visibility, creating actionable data for end-to-end process optimization across the supply chain,” stated Richard White, founder and CEO of WiseTech Global.

He further added, “This transaction demonstrates WiseTech’s continued investment in our landside logistics development priority, enhancing our CargoWise ecosystem in the container optimization space, while helping to reduce traffic congestion in ports from unnecessary transport of empty containers.”
