WiseTech Global acquires Opentecnología

WiseTech Global announced a conditional agreement to acquire Opentecnología, a top customs and logistics technology firm specializing in solutions for the Colombian market.

This acquisition aims to enhance CargoWise’s capabilities in global customs across Latin America.

Authorized by Colombia’s National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN) as a technology provider, Opentecnología is integral to Colombia’s electronic invoicing ecosystem. Its strong ties with DIAN and active participation in the country’s leading logistics groups help shape standards for data integration and interoperability.

Opentecnología is renowned for its robust customer base, including major logistics operators and global carriers who are also CargoWise users. Opentecnología also supports the development of foreign trade and national competitiveness, establishing itself as a key player in Colombia’s technology solutions market for logistics and international trade.

Colombia is a significant player in Latin America with the fourth largest economy and the third largest population. It houses major commercial centers such as Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, and Cartagena, making it a pivotal hub for almost 90% of the nation’s maritime foreign trade.

The United States stands as Colombia’s primary trading partner, complemented by substantial trade relationships with countries like Panama, India, China, and the Netherlands.

Vlad Bilanovsky, Chief Execution Officer of WiseTech Global stated that the aim for WiseTech’s global customs platform is to encompass 90% of the world’s manufactured trade flows.

Opentecnología will be integrated into the WiseTech Global group while maintaining its leadership under Alex Gordillo and Sandra Guerrero. The company will continue serving its customers directly and expand its offerings to include other CargoWise solutions gradually.

Alex Gordillo, General Manager of Opentecnología S.A., noted that this merger opens up vast new career opportunities for the company’s staff.
