Yang Ming has announced the addition of two new 11,000TEU container vessels, ‘YM Triumph’ and ‘YM Truth’, which will join THE Alliance’s Trans-Pacific routes by August.
The Taiwanese carrier has ordered a total of fourteen 11,000TEU newbuildings through long-term charter agreements with ship owners and YM Triumph and YM Truth are the first two boxships from the series.
These types of vessels have a nominal capacity of 12,690TEU and are equipped with 1,000 reefer plugs. With a length of 332.2m, a width of 48.2m and a draft of 16m, these vessels are designed to cruise at a speed up to 23 knots.
Moreover, the vessel configuration adopts the twin-island design to increase loading capacity and navigational visibility to ensure more efficiency and safety. The ship hull form optimisation and scrubber installation will further increase energy saving and reduce overall emissions, according to Yang Ming.
In addition, the ships are designed with shorter length and beam, which makes them easier to manoeuvre during berthing or departure. The new dimensions enable these vessels to call at major ports worldwide and pass through the new, larger, locks at the Panama Canal with no restriction and provide more flexibility in vessel deployment, according to an announcement.
Apart from the fourteen 11,000TEU vessels to be delivered starting this July until the third quarter of 2022, Yang Ming will add another ten 2,800TEU self-owned newly built ships to its fleet by the second quarter of 2021.
These new vessels will lower the average age of its global fleet to “achieve energy efficiency and unit cost reduction, and accelerate fleet optimisation to proactively cope with the challenges and stricter environmental regulations faced by the fast-changing shipping industry.”
The first vessel of the series, YM Triumph will join THE Alliance’s Transpacific service PN2 on 31 July and will follow the following port rotation: Singapore – Laem Chabang – Cai Mep – Haiphong – Yantian – Tacoma – Vancouver – Tokyo – Kobe – Singapore.
