Yilport Puerto Bolívar in Ecuador received its new ship to shore (STS) and rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes at the end of March as the facility drives forward with its expansion plans for the Pacific port.
The new cranes constitute the first batch of three deliveries in total, scheduled for the current year. The investment is approximately US$22 million, which is part of the first phase of the expansion and modernisation project of the Puerto Bolívar Terminal.
[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The two new STS cranes have a reach of up to 62m (22 rows across) designed to service 14,000TEU ships while the RTGs have a reach of one over six high and seven + one wide, in addition to the operations as well.
The new machines will include equipment and software that will allow the terminal to reach new capacities and increase its efficiency and capacity.
Furthermore, Yilport has announced that it aims to launch the implementation of the new Pier 6 project as soon as possible, following the land transfer process which was completed on 4 September 2020. The first section of the pier is expected to be operational by mid-2022.
“This important infrastructure will increase the terminal’s capacity by an additional 450m of pier, constituting an investment of US$176 million,” said the Turkish terminal operator.
