In the first 10 months (January-October) of 2019 Yokohama handled a total of 2,250,698 TEU of international containerised shipments, down 0.3% year on year. Exports decreased by 0.7% to 1,185,503 TEU, but imports grew 0.2% to 1,065,195 TEU.
October 2019 saw a substantial decrease in throughput with the Port of Yokohama handling 215,268 TEU of loaded and empty oceangoing containers, a substantial decrease of 12.6% from the previous year, according to the City of Yokohama’s Port and Harbor Bureau. Both exports and imports fell, with outgoing loaded boxes accounting for 116,457 TEU, down 10.3%, and incoming freight, 98,811 TEU, down 15.1%.
