The hyperloop transport system developing company Zeleros will launch a prototype of its Sustainable Electric Freight-forwarder (SELF) autonomous container transport system in the Port of Sagunto, aiming to accelerate the transition towards sustainability and automation.
Developed in cooperation with the research institute Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT), and the Polish manufacturer of electrical steels Magneto, this technology is projected to allow Zeleros to develop its hyperloop system for zero-emissions and automated container movements between terminals.
The SELF system consists of vehicles or bogies guided by the rails where the linear motor is installed. The latter is 100% electric and can be operated in a fully automated way, helping reduce emissions and improving the efficiency of port operations.
Furthermore, the prototype project, which is aligned with the EU Sustainable Development Goals, consists of a 100-metre shuttle where the linear motor will be subjected to several missions to validate the functionality of the system.
“With this pioneering pilot, we will demonstrate and optimise the SELF system, accelerating the path towards its commercialisation that will allow its implementation in ports all over the world,” claimed David Pistoni, co-founder and CEO at Zeleros.
The board of directors of Valencia Port Authority (PAV) approved the concession of land for the installation of the prototype on 11 February.
“Ports are spaces of innovation that host innovative experiences such as Zeleros and this is how progress is made towards increasingly sustainable, efficient and safe operations,” stated Aurelio Martínez, president of the PAV.
